JAN 18: "WE CAN HELP EVERYONE IF WE GET OUR PRIORITIES STRAIGHT"

Former Georgetown Hoya and NBA star for the Miami Heat, Alonzo Mourning was on the ground with Project Medishare in Port-Au-Prince. He flew in with the organization to Haiti on Friday JAN 15th saying he would do anything to help the charity that he has supported for many years. Mourning helped clear debris from their tented clinic and then was going to be enlisted in carrying a four month old baby girl into the US to defy Customs as officials were denying her entry for treatment at a Florida hospital. This has been the case over the last week, the US is holding up allowing Haitians into the US for treatment - as of Saturday night only 23 Haitians have been admitted to US hospitals. In baby Jean's case they relented and Mourning and Medishare flew back with her on Saturday to Fort Lauderdale.

From The Times of London on JAN 18:
Back in Port-au-Prince, Mr Mourning sat exhausted, inured to the screaming of a boy whose broken leg had been reset without painkillers. “The US is an hour and a half from here,” he said. “The children here have devastating injuries and we can only patch them up. It makes no sense. We can help everybody here if we get our priorities straight.”
