JAN 21: PENNSYLVANIA PAPER COVERS LOCAL SURGEON AND MEDICAL TEAM HEADING TO HAITI

THE EVENING SUN, Hanover PA, Local Doctors, Nurses Head To Haiti

Excerpt:

Saturday, Vandervort, an operating room nurse at Hanover Hospital, got an e-mail from a friend saying simply: "If you can come, we need you desperately."

Vandervort and his wife immediately made plans to go.

He mentioned the upcoming trip while working in an operating room with Dr. Wesley Harden, who has a practice in Hanover. Harden had contacted the Red Cross and other relief agencies but had not heard back.

"I said, 'Can I go with you?' and it was a matter of minutes before I was booked on a flight to go," Harden recalled.

Vandervort said he made a few calls, and Harden and his wife, Deborah, who has nursing and child-care skills, joined the trip.

The two couples will leave for Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Friday, and fly for Haiti early Saturday morning.
